Data Fields have been completely redesigned however the names and groupings remain the same. There are now three types of data fields – Local, Global and System.
Local data fields are only available in one specific template – e.g. Date from for a medical certificate
Global data fields are available to all templates – e.g. Letterhead
System data fields are the built-in merge fields provided by Stat – these remain the same as before.
Global data fields should be used rarely and only for fields that need to be used on many different templates. Headers and Footers are two prime examples of a Global data field. Most custom data fields will be Local data fields created specifically for the current template.
The inclusion of Local data fields means that it is now much simpler to manage a complex template. The custom data fields are created and maintained (and are visible) directly from the template setup screen. To create a local data field, you right click on the ‘Template Data fields’ entry under the ‘Local’ tab.
